Sacrococcygeal teratoma, type I
S. Manohar
, MD, DMRD.
India.
Case report
The patient was referred to our center at 38 weeks of gestation.
Our ultrasound scan revealed a huge sacral mass filling almost two thirds of the amniotic cavity, measuring more than 12cm x 18cm x 15cm.
The lesion showed predominant multi-locular cystic portion and solid echogenic portion. The mass was exophytic with no extension into the pelvis or abdomen. The solid portion did not show increased vascularity on color Doppler. There was no evidence of fetal hydrops or cardiac failure. Our diagnosis was sacrococcygeal teratoma, type I, located entirely externally.
The patient delivered via cesarean section and underwent surgery after delivery. The final diagnosis was Sacrococcygeal teratoma, type I. Surgery was successful and baby is doing fine at the moment.
