The speaker discusses the normal and abnormal anatomy of the anal sphincter, including staging rectal cancer. Upon completion of this educational activity the participant will recognize normal anatomy of the anal sphincter, review the technique used in sonographically evaluating the anal sphincter, especially with abscess or fistula formation and finally discuss how to accurately stage rectal cancer.
