Answer to the case of the week # 84

November 22 - December 5

Luis Izquierdo MD, Amanda Cotter MD, Elvire Jacques, MD.

These images, obtained during a routine third trimester examination, are quite disturbing. As you can see, there are 2 black masses below the fetus. One of these masses could be easily mistaken for a fibroid near the cervix.

.

The "Seascape" image demonstrated that the fetus and pregnancy were in an abdominal pregnancy. This is always a very difficult diagnosis to make and especially illustrate. This image is quite exceptional in this regard.

The following images show this baby"s delivery.

Baby"s hand and  foot between the omenthal fatty tissue and intestines.

Newborn"s face with compression effect.

Placental insertion.

The diagnosis thus was Abdominal pregnancy .
