Answer to the case of the week # 448
June 22, 2017 - July 6, 2017

Lech Dudarewicz, MD.

Case report
A young woman (G1P0) with unremarkable history came to our office during the second trimester of pregnancy for routine ultrasound. Following images and videos show asymmetry of hands, ribs and pectoralis muscles. Our diagnosis was Poland syndrome (confirmed after birth). The child is doing well, and he does not seem to need therapy, just possible surgery in the future.

Images 1-3; videos 1-3:
2D images of the fetal thorax and upper limbs in different planes showing mild asymmetry of hands, ribs cage and pectoralis muscles. The absence of heart defects support the diagnosis of Poland syndrome.
