Acrania from amniotic band

Luis Guillermo Diaz Guerrero, MD

Perinatology Unit, Carabobo University, Valencia – Venezuela

This is a case of acrania in a first trimester fetus resulting from amniotic band. The mother was a 26-year-old woman sent for ultrasound at 13 weeks with history of vaginal bleeding. Transvaginal ultrasound was performed which showed normal ductus venosus, normal biometry for long bones, normal nuchal thickness (2 mm). The skull however had a cloverleaf shape.
